The above image is a rendering of Mercedes’s 2011 B-Class Compact MPV. The car will not be using the sandwich construction of the current model, which was characterized by a high floor, but will instead use a different platform. This major change will allow the car to be accepted by a wider range of buyers.
The change in the platform on which the car is based will also cause a drop in the height of the MPV. The 2011 Mercedes B-Class will be one of the first Mercedes cars to take advantage of the Mercedes-Renault partnership. The car will share some of its engine options from the future Renault Clio and Megane like the 900 cc, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor. Due to the car now possessing a different chassis, it can share engines such as the 2.1-litre diesel motor with its Saloon siblings the C and E Class.
The 2011 Mercedes Benz B-Class could also be offered in a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration, unlike the current car’s front-engine, front-wheel drive only layout. The car will be sleekly styled, since it will now be positioned to take on the likes of the BMW GT1 and Audi A3 Sportback. The car could be unveiled towards the end of this year or early next year.
