BMW is now offering a new, sportier design on the EfficientDynamic (ED) models of its high-volume seller 3 Series.
The styling is based on the recently introduced ED Plus model and gives a fresh look to the car. The changes will be available on both the saloon and touring versions and owing to technological upgrades, the 320d ED Sport will also give a better fuel mileage and lower emissions.
The new BMW 320d ED Sport Touring emits just 104g/km of CO2 and has a fuel consumption of 70.6 (UK) mpg (24.99 km/l). This makes it the “cleanest” and most fuel-efficient 3 Series. This has been made possible with the use of Active Air Flaps, which have been incorporated into the kidney grill, and a lowered suspension set-up. BMW claims that these tweaks have also enhanced the aerodynamics and performance of the car.
Meanwhile, the technical specifications of the car remain unaffected. The 2.0-litre diesel engine develops 163 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels of the car via either a 6-speed manual or the class leading 8-speed automatic gearbox. The 320d ED Sport (manual) can propel from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 230 km/h.
With a starting price of £30,205 (OTR), the 320 ED Sport will also come with more standard equipment and personalization options. Customers will get 17-inch light-alloy wheels (18- or 19-inch optional), Business Navigation, Dakota leather upholsteries, Sports steering wheel and heated front seats as standard. BMW states that the ED Sport models gets these additional accessories worth £840 for only £500 more than their ED Plus model.
Sales in the UK commence next month.
