YouTube user HondaPro Jason has shared a video of the UK-spec fourth-gen 2015 Honda Civic Type R that debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. The two Type Rs seen here are finished in Milano Red and Championship White. The video was recorded at the Honda training institute in the UK.
The lucky YouTuber also got a chance to fire-up the hot hatch and rev it up to around 2,200 RPM. The video also shows how the engine sounds with the hood opened, as well as the intelligent Multi Information Display (i-MID) that can be used to display the G-force, brake pressure / accelerator pedal position, turbo-boost pressure, water temperature, oil pressure and temperature, lap time, and acceleration time in terms of speed (0-100 km/h or 0-60 mph) and distance (0-100 m or 0-1/4 mile).
The video also previews the ‘+ R’ button in the instrument panel, which can be used to change the white background lighting of the gauges to blood red. The +R mode can be activated by a button located to the left (for LHD)/right (RHD) of the steering column. In the RHD car featured, the button is on the left of the steering column, which indicates that it’s a pre-production unit. When activated, the +R logo is displayed on the i-MID, to the left of the rev indicator.
The ‘+R’ mode basically unleashes the beast for extreme track usage. When activated, the engine becomes even more responsive with torque-mapping tweaks. More torque is made available at lower engine speeds. The level of power assistance by electronic power steering is reduced in order to provide a heavier and tighter steering feel. The new 4-point Adaptive Damper System’s basic damping force is increased by 30% for the much-required, enhanced handling. The yaw-rate sensor gives more performance-spirited driving freedom as the Vehicle Stability Assist programme is tweaked to focus more on acceleration and handling.
The 2015 Civic Type R is available in two trim levels in the UK. The standard one is priced at £29,995 OTR, while the GT is priced at £32,295 OTR. Built at the company’s Swingdon plant in the UK, the 2015 Civic Type R will go on sale across Europe from July this year. Five body paint choices are offered in Europe – Championship White, Crystal Black (pearlescent), Polished Metal (metallic), Brilliant Sporty Blue (metallic) and Milano Red.
