We had reported earlier that the Audi A3 would receive a facelift in 2016. Today, new details have emerged on the 2016 Audi A3 which is set to get Audi’s all-digital Virtual Cockpit instrument display.
According to a report by Motoring.com, Audi’s head of electrics/electronics, Ricky Hudi, has confirmed that the Virtual Cockpit display will be offered as an option in the upcoming facelifted A3. The Virtual Cockpit made its debut in the Audi TT launched last year and was also offered in the Audi R8 as part of standard equipment. The digital display is also offered on the Q7 and A4 models.
The report goes on to suggest that even though the Virtual Cockpit display is sold as an option in the Q7 many customers are choosing the technology, convincing the manufacturer to offer the display in a lower segment. The display could be priced as an extra €400 ($ 442) option in the new A3.
Audi eventually intends to offer the Virtual Cockpit across its product range with the Q5 and the A5 set to receive it in the future, and the technology rapidly touted to becoming an Audi signature. Mr Hudi stated that the Nvidia powered, high resolution multimedia display is still ahead of its rivals. He went on to add that even the range topping BMW 7 Series along with other premium manufacturers still have not announced something similar.
