The next generation 2016 Audi A4 sedan and 2016 Audi A4 Avant have been officially unveiled. With the all-new design, the fifth generation A4 sedan has grown in both length and width. While the height remains the same at 1,427 mm, the length and width have grown to 4,726 mm (+25 mm) and 1,842 mm (+16 mm) respectively. The wheelbase has been increased by 12 mm to 2,820 mm. Despite the growth in size, it is up to 120 kg lighter (depending on the engine).
The Avant version now offers a luggage space of of 505 litres, and with rear seats folded, the space increases to 1,510 litres. Electric cover and electrically opening tailgate are standard. A foot sensor for the tailgate can be opted for.
Three TFSI petrol and four TDI diesel engine options are offered on the new generation A4 and A4 Avant:
- 1.4-litre TFSI with 110 kW/150 hp and 250 Nm of torque
- 2.0-litre TFSI with 140 kW/190 hp and 320 Nm of torque
- 2.0-litre TFSI with 185 kW/252 hp and 370 Nm of torque
- 2.0-litre TDI with 110 kW/150 hp and 320 Nm of torque
- 2.0-litre TDI with 140 kW/190 hp and 400 Nm of torque
- 3.0-litre TDI with 160 kW/218 hp and 400 Nm of torque
- 3.0-litre TDI with 200 kW/272 hp and 600 Nm of torque
An A4 Avant g-tron will also be offered. The 2.0-litre TFSI engine on it offers 125 kW/170 hp and 270 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include 6-speed manual, 7-speed S tronic and 8-speed tiptronic. For the 272-hp 3.0-litre TDI engine, an optional sport differential will also be offered for the rear axle.
Noteworthy technology features on the new generation models include Matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals, Audi virtual cockpit with 12.3-inch LCD screen, head-up display, Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound and MMI Navigation plus infotainment based on second generation modular infotainment platform with 8.3-inch screen and MMI touch and new, natural voice-control system, and Audi smartphone interface.
New safety and assistance systems on the all-new A4 and A4 Avant include Audi pre sense city, basic and rear, parking assist, rear cross-traffic assist, exit warning, turn assist, collision avoidance assist and camera-based traffic-sign recognition.
The 2016 Audi A4 and 2016 Audi A4 Avant will have their public debut at the 2015 International Motor Show (IAA) in September and go on sale in Germany and other Western European countries in fall 2015.
