Audi has dropped the first teaser videos for the next-gen 2016 Audi A4 and 2016 Audi A4 Avant and announced that the all-new models will be revealed on Monday, 29 June. The teaser videos, both in English and German, tease the striking new design of the all-new models’ headlamp clusters. The front fascia and rear-end of the sedan version has already been spied undisguised. The B9 A4 will be based on the MLB Evo platform which should allow for a significant weight reduction.
The Audi A4’s engine options will include a new 2.0-litre TFSI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that was unveiled at the Vienna Motor Symposium last month. The engine weighs only about 140 kg and produces 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Even with such high power outputs, it manages to offer a fuel economy figure of 20 km/l in the NEDC. The all-new A4 will be the first Audi to feature the new engine.
The next-gen A4 model range will also include a natural gas variant, which will be called the ‘A4 g-tron’. This was confirmed by Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management at Audi AG for Technical Development at Audi’s Annual Press Conference 2015 in March. The natural gas variant is likely be limited to select markets and is expected to boost the A4’s sales in Europe due to the incentives offered in the continent for vehicles with lower CO2 emissions. The A4 g-tron’s CO2 emissions should be under 100 g/km.
Moreover, the company also plans to have a plug-in hybrid version of every model in its portfolio in the future, and so, such variant may also be introduced between late 2017 and 2018. The plug-in hybrid variant should be introduced before the natural gas variant, as it will be sold in more markets, including its two main markets which have a significant demand for it – U.S.A. and China.
