The 2016 Audi A5 and S5 coupe have been spied testing at the Nurburgring in Germany. The new A5 coupe will be based on the 2016 A4 which will be showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The 2016 A5/S5 coupe will be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s second generation MLB platform which is also known as the MLB Evo platform. The new generation model is expected to grow in size, and yet, become lighter, likely by up to 100 kg.
The 2016 A5 coupe should be offered with 190-hp and 252-hp 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines, and 2.0- and 3.0-litre TDI diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 190 hp to 272 hp. Transmission options like to be offered are 6-speed manual, 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch and 8-speed tiptronic automatic. Reports say that the 2016 S5 will continue with the current 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine, but will get a power upgrade.
Expect all major features from the all new A4 to be on board the next-gen A5/S5 coupe, including Matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals, Audi’s virtual cockpit with 12.3-inch LCD screen, head-up display, latest MMI Navigation plus infotainment based on second generation modular infotainment platform and more.
Like the outgoing model, the all-new model could also have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, in March 2016. And if that is the case, sales would most likely commence in H2 2016.
