The fifth generation Audi A4 is slated for public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA) in September. Meanwhile, the German automaker has the next-gen A5 coupe also in the pipeline, the all-new A4’s soft-top version. Here’s a realistic rendering of the 2016 Audi A5 coupe by Remco Meulendijk of RM.Design, portraying the next-gen model’s likely appearance in production-spec.
The Audi A5 range comprises of the coupe, cabriolet and “Sportback” versions of the A4 and word out there is that the coupe version is set to enter next generation at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show in March. It will be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform. The next-gen A5 & S5 coupe are already under development, as seen in the spy video which we shared recently.
It is expected that the 2016 A5 coupe will be offered with 190-hp and 252-hp 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines and 2.0- and 3.0-litre TDI diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 190 hp to 272 hp.
Transmission options are likely to be a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch and an 8-speed tiptronic automatic. Recent reports claim that the S5 coupe will continue with the current 3.0-liter supercharged V6, but with a power upgrade of around 20 hp. The S5 coupe will be launched along with the A5 coupe and their sales will commence in H2 2016. However, the high-performance variant RS 5 isn’t expected to be unveiled before 2017.
Audi will disclose more information about the 2016 A5 and S5 closer to the duo’s launch.
