2016 Audi R8 Spyder rendering looks like the real deal

April 7, 2015

The second generation Audi R8 that was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March, is expected to spawn a convertible version ‘Spyder’, by next year. A new rendering by the excellent Malaysian artist Theophilus Chin previews a near-production look at the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder. The new-generation Audi R8 comes in two variants – V10 and V10 Plus.

The rendering is apparently developed from the R8 V10, i.e. the standard variant. The rear wing is similar to that seen on the V10 Plus, but there are two notable differences – it is of a grey colour and tapered downward at both ends. The engine lid is smaller on the convertible version to make space to the folding soft-top. The cowl and the air vents on both sides are borrowed from the original R8 Spyder.

The all-new R8 is powered by a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated FSI V10 engine that produces 540 hp and 540 Nm of torque on the V10 variant and 610 hp and 560 Nm of torque on the V10 Plus variant. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed S tronic transmission and the convertible model most likely will feature the same powertrain.

The media is expecting the new Audi R8 Spyder to debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and go on sale in mid-2016.
