It was reported in April that the second generation Audi Q7 is getting a more powerful and sportier S variant next year. Now a leaked image published by Autoblog.nl allegedly reveals some of the 2016 Audi SQ7’s specifications.
It mentions that the sportier variant will be powered by a 320 kW (429-hp) 4.0-litre TDI V8 turbo-diesel engine. Although maximum torque figure remains undisclosed, it can be expected to be north of 800 Nm.
An Audi engineer did hint earlier that the SQ7 might be offered with a 4.0-litre TDI diesel engine, as per the aforementioned report. Moreover, it may also feature the company’s e-boost technology that was presented with the RS5 TDI-e concept in 2014. The electric turbocharger is powered by a lithium-ion battery and helps elimiate the turbo lag felt at low engine speeds. The conventional turbocharger, like usual, kicks in at a higher rpm.
The 2016 SQ7’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time should be around 5.5 seconds, while its top speed could be electronically limited to 250 km/h. It could debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) and the same engine can also be expected in the standard Q7, with less power and without an electric turbocharger, probably next year.
