The Cadillac XT5 crossover is on its way to replace the SRX crossover that is in its second generation currently. This alleged production-ready XT5 spotted during a photoshoot hints a LA Auto Show debut in November and the commencement of sales in early 2016.
Here are some significant details about the Cadillac XT5 known so far.
1. Cadillac XT5 Platform
The XT5 will be based on GM’s all-new C1XX platform. The monocoque platform is an iteration of the E2XX platform that underpins the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. Rumour has it that Cadillac may use the benefit of the platform’s flexibility to spawn a long-wheelbase version of the XT5 and offer three-row seating in it. Apart from flexibility, features of the C1XX platform include front-wheel drive & all-wheel drive configurations, transverse-mounted engine and four-wheel independent suspension.
2. Cadillac XT5 Powertrain
The base engine for the XT5 will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. The 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine announced for the 2016 CT6 and 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is also rumoured to be listed, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
For Cadillac, the XT5 would be a great opportunity to achieve growth in global markets. Media reports say that Cadillac is developing brand new four- or a six-cylinder diesel engines to make inroads in Europe.
North America already has a great demand for hybrid cars in the compact segment, while China, which is a huge foreign market for the brand, now offers appealing incentives for hybrid & pure-electric cars. So, a hybrid variant can also be expected to arrive at a later date.
3. Cadillac XT5 CUE infotainment system
The updated CUE infotainment system that was announced on June 9, will likely debut on the XT5. It will have an 8-inch touchscreen and will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay phone integration compatibility. The updated infotainment system will be run by a more powerful processor and so, the system start-up, voice recognition, navigation searches and media playing will get faster. The navigation system is also expected to become simpler to use, and more customizable.
4. Cadillac XT5 Manufacturing
The SRX is currently manufactured for North America at GM’s Ramos Arizpe Assembly plant in Mexico. According to media reports, once the SRX is discontinued, the XT5’s production will be relocated to the GM Spring Hill Manufacturing facility in Spring Hill, in the State of Nashville, USA. Chinese and Russian production will continue the way it is.
5. Cadillac XT5 Price
As of today, the SRX price range in the US starts at US$37,605. The XT5 is said to start at around US$40,000.
