The sixth generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has been officially unveiled in Canada. GM debuted the all-new model in Canada at the 17th Annual St. Catharines Powertrain Show & Shine event.
The event was open to all ‘GM Powered’ cars and included a tour of the St. Catharines Powertrain facility which was commissioned in 1954 located in Ontario. The Camaro enthusiasts and fans of the powertrain line-up from GM also witnessed the production of the LT1 V8 engine as a part of the event.
Steve Carlisle, President and Managing Director, General Motors of Canada said that the company is excited to present the sixth generation of the Chevrolet Camaro in Canada featuring the LT1 V8 small block engine which is built at the St. Catharines facility. He also added that the 2016 Camaro with the Canadian built V8 engine at the heart of the SS model has been designed with a focus on providing an engaging driving experience for the consumer.
The engines offered in the Canadian line-up will include an Ecotec 2.0 Liter Turbo, next-gen 3.6 Litre V6 and the 6.2 Litre LT1 V8. The Camaro offered with the Ecotec 2.0 Litre engine will be the most efficient model ever with an estimated efficiency of 30.15 mpg (12.82 km/l). The engine produces 275 hp (205 kW) of power and 400 Nm (295 lb.-ft.) of torque and makes the muscle car capable of reaching 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in under 6 seconds.
The new generation 3.6 Litre V6 engine produces 335 hp (250 kW) of power which is the segment’s highest specific output for a naturally aspirated engine. The 6.2 Litre LT1 V8 makes 455 hp (339 kW) of power and 617 Nm (455 lb-ft) of torque.
