2016 Chevrolet Camaro front teaser

2016 Chevrolet Camaro has a busy publicity schedule this year

May 14, 2015

General Motors will take wraps off the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro during a special public event on Saturday, May 16, on Belle Isle island park where the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix is hosted. Although the sixth generation muscle car is having an unveiling independent of any motor show, Chevrolet will ensure that it gets great publicity and does not want to disappoint enthusiasts who won’t get a chance to be there at the main unveiling.

Citing a telephonic conversation with Todd Christensen, the Camaro’s marketing manager, a new report from Edmunds.com reveals the company’s plans for special appearances of the all-new model throughout the year.

Following its May 16 debut, the new generation model will make appearances at the Indianapolis 500 on May 24-25, Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park on July 14, Michigan’s Woodward Dream Cruise on August 15 and at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in California August 13-16.

At each event, a Camaro SS coupe in red body paint will be on demo. After going to Indianapolis 500 on May 24-25, the all-new muscle car returns to Belle Isle on May 29-31 for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

A large dealer preview event is planned in June, where some of the dealers will lay eyes on the all-new model in metal for the first time. A fleet MY2016 models will be there for the Camaro enthusiasts during August 7-9 at the Camaro Fest at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The company is considering auctioning the first 2016 Camaro, i.e. the one with VIN No. 1.

The car’s traditional motor show debut will be at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show, mostly on the first press day – November 17th. The 2015 SEMA Show will host the exhibition of a bunch of aftermarket modifications for the all-new Ford Mustang-challenger.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will reach dealerships in the U.S. in late fall, and till then, the company will continue its journey of teasing Camaro enthusiasts nationwide with something they cannot buy just yet. More details on the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro can be found here.

  1. Will the new Gen-6 _ Camaro meet the design muster with the likes of the new Mustang. Design wise, the Mustang is a tough act to follow, but Chevy better be close to pull any sales away from the Mustang from those independent minded performance Pony car buyers.

Will its performance metrics overcome any perception that its exterior/interior design isn’t quite on par with the new Mustang. I’m most curious about the 4-Cyl. option in the new Camaro, will it compete toe to toe with the well sorted Eco’b. Being a previous owner of a new SVO, I have a history with boosted Ford 4-cyl’s, and I have now spent several hours in the new Eco’b and quite like it. I hope GM boosted its 4-cyl, boosted engine game to the level of the Eco’b’s performance and left a lot of capacity for after market parts to boost it even farther. The Eco’b’s performance can easily be enhanced to low 12 second 0-60 times for very little money.

We still have quite a wait to see all the specs and performance options, and real time comparisons between the two.
