Chevrolet didn’t launch the original Cruze hatchback in the U.S., but that was “a pre-bankruptcy planning mistake” according to Mark Reuss, Executive VP of Global Product Development, Purchasing & Supply Chain of GM, says a fresh report from Automotive News. However, the second generation Cruze hatchback is planned to be sold in the country, as per the report. The company showed a 2016 Cruze hatchback to U.S. dealers last week at a national meeting in Las Vegas. Rival automaker Honda is also planning to launch the hatchback variant of the next-gen Civic in the States next year.
The current Cruze hatchback is offered only in overseas markets, including Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand. A station wagon variant of the sedan is also offered in overseas markets but that obviously won’t be offered in the U.S. even in the second generation, due to the almost non-existent demand for the segment.
The second generation 2016 Chevrolet Cruze sedan will be unveiled at a media event in the U.S. tomorrow (June 24, 2015). The hatchback variant’s unveiling is expected to follow in the next couple of months.
