Update – GM has released a teaser video of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The all-new mid-size sedan has passed endurance tests in the freezing cold weather of Northern Canada and in the extremely hot weather of Yuma, Arizona. The car was also put for several hours in the Climatic Wind Tunnel where both extreme hot and cold weather situations are simulated, at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will go on sale at the end of 2015.
General Motors has teased the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu ahead of its 2015 New York International Auto Show debut in April. With the introduction of the MY2016 model, the mid-size sedan will enter its ninth-generation.
The Epsilon II platform-based current-generation Malibu has endured a major setback of limited rear passenger space. The new-generation Malibu will be based on the E2XX platform and have about four inches longer wheelbase, hopefully providing better rear passenger space, say reports.
Thanks to the use of a higher-strength steel, the MY2016 Malibu is likely to drop 300 lbs (136 kg). This should help improve the car’s fuel economy and handling. The roofline has been stretched rearward to give the sedan a sleek figure, and it appears that the front and rear overhangs are reduced. The teaser image reveals a fastback-style side profile, likened to that of the Audi A7.
