Ford has revealed performance specifications of the third generation Ford Focus RS. The all-new 2016 Ford Focus RS is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.7 seconds. It has been priced from $36,605 in the U.S. market and its deliveries are expected to commence in Spring 2016.
At the heart of the 2016 Ford Focus RS, lays a specially engineered version of the company’s new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine that produces 350 hp and 350 lb.-ft. (475 Nm) of torque. This enables the third-gen Focus RS to achieve a top speed of 165 mph (266 km/h).
The 2016 Ford Focus RS will for the first time employ launch control technology and Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring for enhanced grip and agility while cornering. The launch control technology adapts the hatchback’s chassis to deliver the fastest possible acceleration time under various track conditions. It also monitors the torque distribution, traction control and damper settings for the quickest response to acceleration inputs.
The Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive system manages the hatchback’s front/rear torque split using twin electronically controlled clutch packs. It also manages the side-to-side torque distribution at the rear axle, enabling torque vectoring for enhanced cornering stability and overall handling.
Drivers are presented with four different drive modes –Normal, Track, Sport and Drift, which can configure the all-wheel-drive system, electronic stability control, damper controls, exhaust sound and steering and engine responses for enhanced customization of driving characteristics for various conditions be it on normal roads or racing tracks.
The company informs that the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine in the 2016 Focus RS shares its fundamental design with the all-aluminium EcoBoost engine in the all-new Ford Mustang. The engine in the RS has been revised extensively for enhanced power output of 10%. It employs an enhanced air intake layout with a high-performance exhaust and low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with larger compressor.
