Hyundai Motor calls the Genesis G90, the successor to the Hyundai Equus/Hyundai Centennial, a ‘state-of-the-art rear-wheel drive luxury saloon’. The newly established luxury brand’s first and the parent company’s upcoming flagship model is the result of four years of research and development. 1,200 technical people have tested the car globally.

Getting on to the technical aspects, 51.7% of the body is made of ultra high-strength steel, 3.2 times that of the Equus’s 16.3% figure. South Korean Media is reporting that the Genesis G90 (Genesis EQ900) will be 5,205 mm long, 1,915 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, and have a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. Its long-wheelbase version will be 5,495 mm long, 1,915 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, and have a wheelbase of 3,450 mm.

The Genesis G90 will be the parent company’s first autonomous car. It will come with Highway Driving Assist (HDA) feature that provides the comfort of autonomous driving on highway. The autonomous driving feature is a combination of Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), which work in combination with the navigation system. The autonomous driving system automatically hands over control to the driver before a tollgate or an interchange. It will automatically stick to the speed limit of a particular highway.

Three engine options will be available and all will be petrol. The entry-level unit will be a 3.8-litre Lambda V6 GDI naturally aspirated V6 that produces 334 hp and 40.3 kg.m (395 Nm) of torque. Topping that, will be a 3.3-litre Lambda V6 T-GDI twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 370 hp and 52.0 kg.m (510 Nm) of torque. The most powerful engine will be a 5.0-litre GDI naturally aspirated V8 unit that churns out 425 hp and 53.0 kg.m (520 Nm) of torque.

There will be four driving modes – Smart, Eco, Sport and Individual, and other major technical features include H-TRAC all-wheel drive system and Hyundai Variable Control Suspension (HVCS).
