USA: 2016 Hyundai Accent introduced with moderate updates

August 31, 2015

Hyundai has introduced the 2016 Accent with enhanced styling and added features in the U.S. market. The new Accent is available in both the hatchback and sedan bodystyles with new consistent naming and prices starting from US$14,745.

The earlier naming nomenclatures of the hatchback and sedan have been dropped for a new progressive line-up. The earlier Accent GLS sedan has been renamed as Accent SE Sedan and the Accent GS hatchback has been renamed as Accent SE Hatchback. The MY2016 range continues to include the Sport trim, with sportier styling and added dynamics over the standard trim.

The 2016 Accent features Hyundai’s signature ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language, with dynamic lines and a sleek design. It sports a hexagonal grille along with swept-back headlamps for an athletic appearance. The SE Sedan with Style Package and the Sport Hatchback get projector headlamps with LED accents for added distinctiveness.

The Sport hatchback features a roof-mounted spoiler and vertical taillights, while the sedan features an updated tail lamp design. The SE Sedan Style Package and the Sport Hatchback feature 16-inch machined finish alloy wheels.

The 2016 Accent gets a 172-watt, 6-speaker infotainment system with CD/MP3 player, iPod/USB auxiliary jacks, SiriusXM radio and Bluetooth which lets users make calls, stream music, access contacts and call logs using audio system controls on the steering wheel. The updated model also gets a revised button layout and Voice recognition feature, based on customer feedback.

The interiors are offered with three fabric colours- Gray, Beige and Black. It also gets leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob along with a reversed LCD display with enhanced readability. The 2016 Accent features a best-in-class shoulder room and knee room, while the five-door version has more cargo space than any of its competitors.

Safety features include six airbags, front-seat active head restraints, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM). It also features Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The EBD allocates the braking force required between front and rear axles to help increase braking performance. In an emergency stop situation the BA steps in to ensure enhanced braking force is available.
