Hyundai Starex, which is also known as i800, iMax, H1 and a few other names varying as per the market, and the Hyundai Porter both are set to get Euro 6 compliant engines soon. A new report from Bobaedream says that Hyundai is readying Euro 6 engines as this is a necessary move for both South Korea and global markets.
The Euro 6 emissions standards require passenger cars weighing lesser than 3.5 tons to reduce their nitrogen oxides (NOx) from 0.18 g/km (of Euro 5) to 0.08 g/km. The Euro-spec i800 will also get a facelift with new grille, bumpers and slight tweaks in the shape, adds the report.
The prices of the both the vehicles can be expected to rise domestically as well as internationally following this move. While some markets can still manage with the Euro 5 engine, markets with stringent emissions norms would definitely require Euro 6 upgrade. Some of the markets, like developing countries, might not be able to soak up the price bump and thus continue with the older engines.
