Kia Motors Europe has announced the 2016 cee’d in Europe. The update model features subtle styling enhancements, improved interiors and introduction of an all-new engine in the range, and is now available at dealerships across Europe.
The 2016 cee’d features the signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille with wraparound headlamps and integrated fog lamps. Up front, the bumper gets a refreshed design with newer angles and a wider appearance, while the new oval-shaped mesh and chrome embellishments around the fog lamps add more to the style. The rear of the car features LED tail lamps, improved reflector design and a reworked bumper to visually improve the appearance.
The interior is simplistc. The basic form of the cabin remains unchanged while the addition of a new optional colour pack will enhance appeal. The dashboard gets addition of a new scratch resistant gloss black finish and chrome trim around the instrument cluster, air-vents and the base of the gear lever. The diesel model gets sound absorbing material and anti-vibration foam for improved NVH levels.
The Kia cee’d GT and the pro_cee’d GT also have been given styling enhancements for MY2016. The visual aggression of the previous models have been retained along with the ‘ice-cube’ daytime running lights and now will also be available with a new 18-inch alloy wheel design.
The interior features a new flat-bottom steering wheel and an aluminium starter button in place of the earlier plastic button. It also adds chrome embellishments to the power window switches on the door and features RECARO suede bucket seats as standard. Also offered, is an electronic sound generator which reproduces the engine note into the cabin for added grunt.
The Kia cee’d introduces an all-new 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo petrol direct injection engine into its range for MY2016. The all-new engine will be offered in two states of tune – a 98 hp and 172 Nm version and a 118 hp and 172 Nm version. This engine is a downsized three cylinder unit and has been developed in the company’s Namyang R&D centre in South Korea.
Other engines in the range include a revised 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine in two states of tune – 98 hp and 134 hp. A 126 hp 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine and a 98 hp 1.4-litre MPI petrol engineare also offered. All the engines are Euro 6-compliant.
The updated range also adds a new 7-speed dual clutch (DCT) transmission to the range. This automatic transmission will be offered exclusively with the higher powered 134 hp 1.6-litre CRDi engine. Other transmission options in the range include a 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed double clutch transmission.
Other noteworthy features include Kia’s Connected Services powered by TomTom, including realtime updates of Traffic, Weather, Speed Camera Search and Local Search among others. Safety features like the optional Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) are also offered.
