The fourth generation Kia Optima (Kia K5) was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April. That was the North American-spec though and the Euro-spec version is said to debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) in September.
Most likely, Europe will have a performance GT variant on the new Optima, as revealed by these unexplained official images.
The ‘GT’ suffix hints that the company would sell a performance variant of the fourth-gen Optima. The Euro-spec 2016 Optima GT seen in these images is identical to the North American-spec 2016 Optima SX Turbo.
The SX Turbo trim sports a 2.0-litre GDI four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is expected to produce 247 hp and 353 Nm of torque. This engine is matched to a 6-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission with Sportmatic shifting. The technical specifications is also likely to be offered on the Euro-spec Optima GT.
Other noteworthy features on the top-spec variant should include Bi-function HID headlights with Dynamic Bending Lamps (DBL) and High Beam Assist (HBA), panoramic sunroof, 18-inch wheels, red brake calipers, LED tail lamps, rear diffuser and dual oval-shaped exhaust pipes, as revealed in the pictures.
The 2016 Kia Optima is expected to go on sale in Europe in early-2016.
