Lexus has announced that the new 2016 Lexus RX will make its debut in the Australian market in November 2015. In its fourth generation, the mid-size luxury SUV will feature dynamic exteriors with enhanced performance and enhanced technologies.
The 2016 Lexus RX line-up will include three models – RX 200t, RX 350 and RX 450h with three trim levels – Luxury, F Sport or Sports Luxury. The RX 200t will be powered by a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 175kW (234 hp) and 350 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission in a front wheel drive format. The RX 200t will be available in the Luxury trim with the option of enhancement packs.
The RX 350 will be available in Luxury, F Sport or Sports Luxury trim levels and will be powered by a 3.5-litre direct injection V6 engine which develops 221 kW (296 hp) and 370 Nm mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission in the AWD format.
The RX 450h will also be available in the Luxury, F Sport or Sports Luxury trim levels and will feature a combined output (engine and electric motor) of 230 kW (308 hp), mated to a CVT gearbox in a AWD setup.
The 2016 Lexus RX sports dynamic exteriors with the signature spindle grille, with chrome surrounds flanked by triple L-shaped LED head lamps (F Sport or Sports Luxury trim). The side profile exudes sportiness with a strong character line running across from the front fenders to the rear of the vehicle. It also sports blacked out C-pillars for a floating roof appearance.
The rear features new design L-shape tail lamps which aids in creating a wider appearance. The RX will sit on newly developed 20-inch alloy wheels which can be customised with variable colour inserts on the top-spec Sports Luxury trim.
The interior features incorporation of laser-cut ornamentation which will be offered in a Lexus for the first time. It will also benefit from a larger head-up display along with a HD 12.3-inch display in select trim variants. The rear passengers will notice enhanced knee room along with re-engineered seats with heating and power reclining feature. It RX will also incorporate a powered panorama roof.
The 2016 Lexus RX features the company’s Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) which monitors the suspension damping and steering for enhanced ride and handling characteristics. All models will be equipped with the new Lexus Safety System+ with features like Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Pre-Collision System (PCS), Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Automatic High Beam (AHB).
The RX F Sport trim available on RX 350 and RX 450h adds exterior styling elements to enhance the dynamic look of the RX. It includes an ’F’ mesh design on the spindle grille along with the lower centrepiece of the rear bumper. It also features new alloy wheels which will be exclusive to the F Sport trim.
The interior adds a bespoke instrument cluster along with a sport steering wheel trimmed in perforated leather with an F Sport logo and paddle shifters. It features a drive mode select control which is mounted on the centre console with driver selectable driving modes like – Normal, Eco, Sports S and Sports S+.
