The 2016 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe will debut alongside the standard 2016 Mercedes C-Class Coupe it will spawn from, at the 2016 International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September, says Autocar.
The article sheds several details about the all-new high-performance sports coupe. It will be based on Mercedes’s new Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) that features extensive usage of high-strength steel and increased usage of aluminum for moderate weight reduction.
Under the hood, according to the report, will be the familiar AMG M178 (Twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8) engine. Like the AMG GT, the C63 will also be available in two states of tunes. The standard model’s engine will produce 469 bhp and 479 lb.-ft. (649 Nm) of torque, while the more powerful S model’s engine will produce 503 bhp and 516 lb.-ft. (700 Nm) of torque. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7-speed automatic transmission will be revised.
Apart from the four driving modes – Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual – for adjusting the performance of the gearbox, dampers, throttle and steering, the S model will also get a Race driving mode for extreme performance, as per the report. The hydraulic steering system will be dumped for an electromechanical one. Mechanical locking differential will be offered as standard, while a quicker-responding electronically operated differential will be exclusive to the S model.
The report says the 2016 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe will sport custom-tuned suspension, a lower centre of gravity and specific camber rates. Deliveries of the all-new AMG Coupe are planned to start in November this year in the UK and markets outside Europe should expect the high performance sports coupe starting in 2016.
