The next major launch from Mercedes-Benz is going to be the next generation E-Class which according to a report, will be unveiled at the 2016 North American International Auto Show. The Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dieter Zetsche, has confirmed that the introduction of autonomous driving technology is imminent, as per a report from Autocar. According to the report, the next-generation E-Class will be previewed with a concept model at the 2015 International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September, and sport this feature when it heads out to the market.
The autonomous technology will most likely be a developed version of the Highway Pilot technology that was seen on the Future Truck 2025 concept last year. The all-new E-Class could feature self-driving mode for highway driving and maybe for parking too. It could be capable of changing lanes, automatically braking and overtaking on the highway. If this is the case, Mercedes-Benz will be offering autonomous features likely to be offered on the future flagship Audi A8 and BMW 7-Series, in its executive saloon E-Class, thus staying a step ahead of the rivals in technology.
