The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (facelift) has been unveiled at the 2015 LA Auto Show, with an updated front fascia and addition of new features.
The facelifted Outlander Sport incorporates the automaker’s “Dynamic Shield” front design. The face gets a bold chrome strip that runs along the edges of the grille while the middle portion is colored black with horizontal slats running through it. Another visible revision is the new design on the 18-inch alloy wheels. Three new exterior colors – Cool Silver, Diamond White Pearl and Quartz Brown have been added to the palette.
The interior has been updated with a redesigned steering wheel, high-quality seat fabrics and a new 6.1-inch Display Audio infotainment system. A new light gray interior trim option has been added for model year 2016. Power folding side mirrors with LED turn indicators, auto-dimming rear view mirror with Homelink and black wheel lip mouldings are among other new features.
There are no modifications to the engine or powertrain. That means the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has the same choice of 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter MIVEC Inline four cylinder petrol engines. The 2.0-liter unit produces 148 hp and 145 lb.-ft. (197 Nm) of torque, while the larger 2.4-liter unit churns out 168 hp and 167 lb.-ft. (226 Nm) torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual and CVT automatic.
Safety aspect is addressed by a Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body cell and advanced seven air bag SRS system. In the U.S. market, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (facelift) has a starting price of US$19,595 and comes with a 5-year or 60,000 mile limited warranty.
