Mitsubishi has teased the third generation 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport – sold as the Mitsubishi Challenger and Mitsubishi Montero Sport in some markets, and confirmed that it will debut on 1 August at the 2015 Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale.
The teaser image reveals that the front fascia will have the new look seen on the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander. The full exterior design and styling isn’t a mystery either, as it has already been revealed via the patent images.
The 2016 Pajero Sport/Montero Sport/Challenger Challenger will be based on the same ladder-frame chassis of the fifth generation Triton that was unveiled in November last year. It is also expected to be offered with the same pickup truck’s new 2.4-litre 4N15 diesel engine. The turbo-diesel engine offers 181 PS (178 hp) and 430 Nm of torque on the pickup truck. Some of the current engines will also continue to be offered.
Currently offered engines include:
3.5-litre ECI-MULTI V6 petrol – 137 kW (184 hp) and 303 Nm of torque
3.0-litre MIVEC V6 petrol – 162/163 kW (217/219 hp) and 281 Nm of torque
2.5 litre turbo-diesel – 100 kW (134 hp) and 314 Nm of torque
3.2 litre turbo-diesel – 120 kW (161 hp) and 343 Nm of torque
2.5 litre turbo-diesel – 131 kW (176 hp) and 350/400 Nm of torque
Transmission options on the next-gen model should include 5-speed manual/automatic and 6-speed manual/automatic. The old 4-speed manual/automatic transmissions from the current model are likely to be phased out.
The 2016 Pajero Sport/Montero Sport/Challenger will rival with the Ford Everest/Endeavour, the Toyota Fortuner and the Holden Colorado 7.
