The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (2016 Mitsubishi Challenger) has been spied fully undisguised ahead of its official debut scheduled to take place on 1 August at the 2015 Bangkok International Grand Motor Sale, thanks to Headlight Magazine. The all-new model is based on the same ladder-frame chassis of the fifth generation Triton that arrived in November 2014.
Two of the spyshots reveal the third generation Pajero Sport’s exterior from the top view. These pictures were snagged at the promotional shooting for the all-new SUV. The view is not that clear but it does reveal the its swept-back headlights, squared wheel arches, blackened B- and C-pillars and the window panels and quarter glass that get narrower towards the rear-end.
The all-new model is likely to be offered with the 2015 Triton’s new 2.4-litre 4N15 turbo-diesel engine. On the pickup, this 16-valve engine is tuned to produce 181 PS (178 hp) and 430 Nm of torque. Some of the engines that are offered on the current model can also continue.
Below are the engines currently offered globally:
3.5-litre ECI-MULTI V6 petrol – 137 kW (184 hp) and 303 Nm of torque
3.0-litre MIVEC V6 petrol – 162/163 kW (217/219 hp) and 281 Nm of torque
2.5 litre turbo-diesel – 100 kW (134 hp) and 314 Nm of torque
3.2 litre turbo-diesel – 120 kW (161 hp) and 343 Nm of torque
2.5 litre turbo-diesel – 131 kW (176 hp) and 350/400 Nm of torque
With the new generation model, the 4-speed automatic transmission is likely to be discontinued, and will be replaced with a 6-speed manual/automatic transmission combo.
