Nissan has introduced the 2016 Nissan Leaf with a 30 kWh battery pack said to give the all-electric car an estimated range of 107 miles (172 km). This represents a 27% increase over the driving range that the previous 24 kWh battery offered. The 2016 model will feature an upgraded IT system which is designed to provide owners enhanced vehicle connectivity.
The new battery pack is offered as standard on the Leaf SV and the Leaf SL trim levels. The Leaf S trim level will continue to be offered with the 24 kWh battery featuring an estimated range of 84 miles (135 km). The 2016 Leaf is offered with three new exterior paint schemes – Coulis Red, Deep Blue Pearl and Forged Bronze.
All the 2016 Leaf trim levels feature Nissan Connect with Mobile App system. The Leaf S trim includes the integration of, hands-free phone system, Bluetooth audio streaming, text messaging assistant and USB connection for iPod among others.
The SV and SL trim levels add a 7-inch colour touchscreen with multi touch control, Sirius XM Travel Link, Nissan Voice recognition for navigation and audio and HD radio. The system gets revisions to the graphics along with improved customisation options. The charging screen now automatically updates itself every time the ignition is turned on and also with every 12 miles of distance covered.
The NissanConnect EV system which is standard on the SV and SL trims has been updated and allows owners to establish a remote connection to the vehicle. It allows the owners to monitor the charge levels of the battery, start charging event control and also turn on the air conditioning or heating remotely before entering the vehicle.
The 2016 Nissan Leaf sports an 80 kW AC synchronous motor under the hood that has a output of 107 hp (79 kW) and 253 Nm (187 lb-ft) of torque providing an engaging driving experience. Unlike conventionally powered engines, the Nissan Leaf has zero emissions of CO2 or other greenhouse gases.
