The first unit of the 2016 Nissan Titan XD has rolled off the production line at the company’s Canton, Mississippi assembly facility. The pickup will go on sale later this year.
The first production run will be of the diesel-powered Titan XD. The diesel model is powered by an all-new 5.0-liter V8 engine that has been co-developed by Cummins and churns out 310 hp and 555 lb.-ft. (752 Nm) of stump-pulling torque. This unit is mated to a heavy-duty Aisin 6-speed automatic gearbox giving the pickup an enormous towing capacity of 12,000 lbs (5,443 kg).
The 2016 TITAN XD will be offered in three cab configurations, two frame sizes, three powertrain offerings and five trim levels. The full-size pickup will feature advanced technologies like Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Tow/Haul Mode with Downhill Speed Control and a Trailer Light Check system that allows one person to complete the hook-up operation.
The Canton facility is spread over 4.2 million square feet and started production in 2003. The plant has more than 6,000 employees and other than the Titan XD, it also rolls out Altima, Armada, Frontier, NV Cargo Van, NV Passenger Van and Murano.
