The Hilux-based 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been leaked on Headlight Magazine‘s community forum. The leaked image previews the side profile of the next generation SUV and the all-new model’s front fascia was also leaked on the same forum previously.
Both images show that the SUV’s front fascia has a very strong resemblance with the third generation Toyota Highlander (Toyota Kluger for Australia) due to the nearly identical sweeping headlamps. The front fascia also features grille combination similar to the older Lexus crossovers/SUVs. The side profile hints that the SUV will go taller with the new generation. The window panels and rear quarter glass appear shorter than before. The sleek taillamps now extend more outwards on the quarter panel and there’s also a new roof-mounted rear spoiler.
The second generation Toyota Fortuner will continue using a ladder-frame platform, but it will be based on the just-launched 2016 Toyota Hilux Revo. Reports say that the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport/Ford Everest challenger will be unveiled in Thailand in July. The same market will be the first one where the all-new SUV will go on sale.
While the first generation was never sold in Australia and New Zealand, the second generation is receiving it. The company’s Australian subsidiary was heavily involved in its development and is expected to launch it in the market in early 2016, as per a report. Reliable motoring publications have also reported that it will be launched in New Zealand. It will be positioned just below the Highlander/Kluger in these markets.
