Thai media is reporting that the 2016 Toyota HiLux will be unveiled on 21 May 2015. This will be the Thai-spec HiLux Revo and it is yet to be confirmed if global markets will also carry the name change for the pickup that is entering its eighth generation.
As seen in the previously leaked images of possibly the top-end trim, the all-new model boasts a completely new design. The front-end gets the latest familiar Toyota grille and headlamp design seen on the eleventh generation Toyota Corolla (global version). The headlamps apparently house LED projector lights and LED daytime running lights; the foglamps still feature conventional halogen lights though. The wheel arches aremore angular and have been enlarged towards the top. Another change on the sides is that window panels have been redesigned. The interior has also been revamped to be more upmarket with a Corolla-inspired dashboard and a large central LCD.
Previous reports have indicated that the 2.5- and the 3.0-litre diesel engines on the HiLux range would be replaced by new 2.4- and 2.8-litre diesel engines, whereas the 2.7-liter Dual VVT-i (petrol), is carried over from the previous generation. Transmission choices are expected to include 5- and 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
