The 2015 VW Tiguan has been officially revealed ahead of its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) today.
Volkswagen is displaying three versions of the second generation Euro-spec Tiguan at the German motor show. The production versions include the sporty Tiguan R-Line, and the standard on-road model along with a special off-road version.
The second generation VW Tiguan is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and is lighter by 110 lbs (50 kg). The second generation Tiguan has also grown in dimensions with an increase of 2.4 inches in length and 1.2 inches in width and the wheelbase being extended by 3.0 inches for a roomier cabin. The boot space has been increased by 1.8 cu. ft. to 18.4 cu. ft. With the rear seats folded, 58.5 cu. ft. (+5.1 cu.ft.) of load space can be achieved now.
The exterior of the all new model boasts of a significantly wider stance accented by the horizontally aligned grille and headlamps. It will also be the first Volkswagen crossover to feature dual LED headlamp setup. The lower section of the vehicle features an anthracite plastic cladding for a rugged look. The rear features addition of LED taillamps with a new design and an aluminium-look diffuser which houses the chrome-plated trapezoidal exhausts.
The interior of the Tiguan has been completely redesigned. The instrument cluster can be opted with a digital Active Info Display. It dashboard well laid out buttons around the gear lever and the centre stack has been angled towards the driver for added convenience. The rear passengers also benefit from increased knee room and adjustable backrest. The higher spec trims feature the MIB II 5-inch colour touchscreen Composition Colour radio system, with an option of upgrading to an 8-inch Composition Media radio system. The infotainment system incorporates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink technologies.
The 2016 VW Tiguan will be offered with eight Euro 6 compliant turbocharged engines, with direct injection, stop/start and battery regeneration technology as standard. Four TSI petrol engines will be offered with power outputs rated at 125 PS (123 hp), 150 PS (148 hp), 180 PS (178 hp) and 220 PS (217 hp). The diesel TDI range of engines have outputs of 115 PS (113 hp), 150 PS (148 hp), 190 PS (187 hp) and 240 PS (237 hp). The base level engines will be offered in a front wheel drive format while the other engines will be available with 4-MOTION all-wheel drive as an option or as part of standard equipment.
The new generation model features safety and assistance technologies like Pedestrian Monitoring, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking System and Lane Assist as standard.
The sportier R-Line trim features the addition of 19-inch Sebring alloy wheels while 20-inch Suzuka alloy wheels are optional. It also gets exterior visual enhancements like body coloured cladding, R-Line bumpers with gloss black accents, two tone roof spoiler and gloss black rear diffuser.
The interior features cloth and microfiber seat upholstery, with an option of upgrading to Vienna leather. It also gets Crystal Grey contrast stitching, special trim accents, black headliner, stainless steel pedal caps, leather trimmed steering wheel with R-Line logo and aluminium door sill guards with the R-Line emblem, which can be illuminated as an option.
The 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan will go on sale in April 2016.
