The exterior of the upcoming 2016 VW Tiguan has been teased in official sketches ahead of its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) tomorrow. With the 2016 model year (Europe), the VW Tiguan is moving to second generation.
To recap, the exterior of the 2016 VW Tiguan was partially spied undisguised during a promotional shoot this month. However, this is the first time the front-end has been previewed. The all-new model gets the new familiar front fascia, but with more aggression. Apparently, the grille, headlamps, bumper as well as the hood design take sinspiration from the Cross Coupe GTE concept that was unveiled at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, traces of which are also notable in the side profile and the rear-end.
The all-new VW Tiguan will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, and is said to be lighter, longer and more spacious. The new generation model will continue being a five seater. However, a larger, 7-seat version dubbed as the VW Tiguan XL is said to arrive in 2017. Moreover, a coupe-styled version named VW Tiguan CC is also said to follow, in 2018.
The 2016 VW Tiguan is expected reach dealerships in Germany and other first markets in early 2016. U.S. and Canada will get their North American-spec version likely in late 2016 or early 2017.
