Details on the sixth generation VW Transporter (T6) debuting on April 15

The fifth generation Volkswagen Transporter (T5) has been in the market from over a decade now and is due for a major update. The sixth-generation Transporter (T6) will be unveiled in April 15, 2015, VW commercial vehicles has confirmed. The design & styling of the Transporter will be based on the Tristar concept which was unveiled in 2014 at IAA Hamburg, and Autobild has published a few more details on the product.

The exterior of the new-generation model will not be completely redesigned, as per the report. Some of the changes on the outside, mentioned in the report, include new LED headlights, newly designed rear lights and a modified tailgate. Unlike the exterior, the interior will be completely new, says the report. The changes inside the cabin should include redesigned dashboard, door panels and other interior equipments, usage of better quality materials and latest infotainment system.

According to the report, new safety and assistance systems will be offered on 2016 VW Transporter including Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Multi collision brake, High-Beam Assist, Park Pilot & Rear Assist, Hill Descent Assist, drowsiness detection system and Side Assist.

Engine start-stop system will be standard. Engine choices will include a 2.0-litre TDI diesel with four varying power outputs and a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine with two varying outputs. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic, varying as per the engine specification. Drivetrain choices include front-wheel drive and 4Motion four-wheel drive, also varying as per the engine specification.
