The 2017 Mitsubishi ASX (a.k.a Outlander Sport) that is due next year, may become the next ‘Evo’-badge bearing hardcore performance vehicle. Speaking to Auto Express, Mitsubishi Motors UK MD Lance Bradley indicated that the company is willing to take a bet with the addition of an Evo model to the next generation ASX’s range.
The next generation ASX will launch in 2016 with two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. A two-wheel drive plug-in hybrid version will also be launched, but at a later date. Mr. Bradley says that it “isn’t a huge jump” to develop a performance model (Evo) following that. The company can afford to take that risk, he added.
To avoid any premature reports on the Evo model’s confirmation, the MD made it clear that a final decision has not been made yet. But there are good chances of it getting the green light as Mr. Bradley says that a lot of senior management officials at the company are discussing it.
He expressed that if the company makes good money with the next-gen ASX, it will introduce the compact crossover’s Evo model to uplift the brand even if doesn’t add much to the profitability.
