A four-seat Mercedes-AMG GT4 based on the GT has been long-rumoured to arrive in 2018/2019. A fresh report from Motoring.com.au says that such version is indeed possible.
When asked about possibility of a GT four-seater, Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, told a select group of Australian journalists: “why not, huh?”. “We are always looking are there opportunities there. The success of the GT is huge and now let’s see what the future will bring”, he said.
The company’s hunt for more possible derivatives may lead it to approving a four-door performance grand tourer based on the GT. The shortened SLS AMG platform which underpins the supercar, is flexible enough to adapt to more versions. When asked if the supercar’s platform could be adapted to spawn a four-seat version, Prof. Dr. Weber confirmed, “Technically, everything is possible”.
In May, when Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers was asked if a convertible version of the GT was in the running, he said that a family of derivatives of the GT will be launched. This family could include a Roadster, GT4, Black Series, and the Final Edition with which the SLS AMG’s successor will bid adieu. The GT Roadster is likely to arrive before the GT4 though.
