Volvo is surprised by the unexpectedly high level of demand for the 2015 XC90 Plug-in Hybrid, says a report from AutoExpress. The company expected 3-5% of the XC90’s orders to be for the Plug-in Hybrid model but it turns out that over 20% of the order book was taken up by the greener variant.
As per the report, Nick Connor, managing director of Volvo UK, admits that the company underestimated demand for the Plug-in Hybrid model.
According to the report, Mr. Connor has said that all new Volvo cars launched in the future, including the Volvo S90, will be available with hybrid powertrain. The company will also see to it that the low-emission versions do not remain limited to top-end models only, unlike the XC90. Citing an unnamed spokesperson, the report states that if demand grows considerably, the company will offer hybrid powertrain across every variant.
