Alpine will come back to the automobile market in 2016 after over two decades of absence with AS1 sports car, said a report in March this year. This report also said that the brand is considering other body styles including SUV. Now a new report from Autovisie indicates that the Renault subsidiary is mulling a sports coupe and a crossover.
Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn has given the green light for resurrection of the brand and will invest €600 Million for the development of the same. The multi-million Euro investment will be spent on the new sports coupe and crossover.
The brand will start-off with the sportscar, suggests the report. A concept version of the sportscar will be introduced at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans that will be held on 13–14 June 2015 at the Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France.
Referring to an unnamed insider, the report says that the concept will be 90% production-ready. The production version is likely to be as expensive as rival offerings from Audi and Porsche. It would be more of an iconic brand-shaping premium model continuing the legacy of Alpine, while the crossover can be expected to be a more affordable product for volume sales.
