Audi will unveil its electric crossover concept at the 2015 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in September. Going with the company’s nomenclature for its crossover/SUV segment & electrified vehicles, the name of the new pure-electric vehicle should be ‘Audi Q6 e-tron’.
According to a fresh report from auto motor und sport, the Q6 e-tron, when launched in 2018, will surpass the Tesla Model S’s driving range of 435 km (270 miles) with a range of up to 600 km (373 miles). Its battery pack will have a capacity of up to 90 kWh and the drivetrain should comprise two electric motors, one powering the front axle and the other powering the rear.
The report says that the electric motors will generate north of 500 hp and 700 Nm. This probably hints at the outputs of the top-spec RS variant.
Internally known as the ‘Audi C-BEV’, the Q6 e-tron will was announced by Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management at Audi AG for Technical Development, at Audi’s Annual Press Conference 2015 in March as a battery-powered “Sports Activity Vehicle” with a range more than 500 km (310 miles). The large premium segment vehicle will be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s second generation modular longitudinal platform (MLB 2) platform.
