The fourth generation 2016 Lexus RX is now on sale in Australia. The 2016 RX range includes three models – RX 200t, RX 350 and RX 450h. The base RX 200t starts at AU$73,000.
The 2016 Lexus RX is available in only one trim for the entry-level RX 200t – Luxury. The other two models, namely the RX 350 and the hybrid RX 450h, are available in three trim levels – Luxury, F Sport and Sports Luxury.
The RX 200t gets power from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that churns out 175 kW (235 hp) and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission which sends drive to the front wheels.
The mid-level Lexus RX 350 sports a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine which develops 221 kW (296 hp) and 370 Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The V6 unit’s maximum power and maximum torque figures have increased by 15 kW (20 hp) and 24 Nm respectively over the outgoing model. All-wheel drive is standard.
The top-of-the-line RX 450h is a hybrid that adds two electric motors to the same 3.5-litre V6 engine under the hood of the RX 350. The combustion engine gives out 193 kW (259 hp) and 335 Nm of torque. Lexus says that the combined output of the hybrid system is 230 kW (308 hp). The electric motor powers the rear wheels. The 650 Volt hybrid system draws electricity from a high-voltage Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery. Transmission is a six-step CVT unit with a sequential shiftmatic system. The RX 450h delivers a combined fuel economy of 17.54 km/l, with CO2 emissions rated at 131 g/km.
The 2016 Lexus RX comes with a long list of standard equipment, including 12-speaker audio system with DAB+ digital radio, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charger, 8-inch high definition display with satellite navigation, tyre pressure monitoring system, reversing camera with back guide monitor and smart entry and start.
A host of safety systems are also offered as standard fitment. With the inclusion of Lexus Safety System+, many active systems have made their way into the 2016 Lexus RX, inluding Pre-Collision Safety System, Lane Keeping Assist, All-speed Active Cruise control and Automatic High Beam.
