Australia: Genesis models will be sold in Hyundai showrooms

December 15, 2015

Hyundai Motor’s newly-announced luxury brand Genesis will have to cope with Hyundai showrooms in Australia, at least in the beginning. According to a report from Car Advice, a separate space will be allocated to the brand inside the dealerships. Speaking to the publication, Oliver Mann, Marketing Director at Hyundai Motor Company Australia, revealed that a ‘store-in-store’ concept will be used selling the Genesis models.

“It’ll definitely be a sister brand, sold through Hyundai dealers as a ‘store-in-store’ concept,” Mr. Mann said.

This selling strategy is expected to be used in North America, Europe, Middle East and markets in other regions as well. Naturally, creating a separate dealership for just one or two models that’d probably sell in a few thousands annually wouldn’t be financially justifiable. The company may keep state-of-the-art showrooms in a few key markets, in the wildest possible case. But full-fledged dealerships can be expected only once the model line-up gains three or four models in the next three years’ time and starts doing volume sales.

In the meantime, the luxury marque should bring more business to Hyundai showrooms with its presence in them. Learning practices from Genesis and putting them into practice for Hyundai models could be another benefit.

“Genesis will always be a Hyundai brand, tied inexorably to Hyundai, and therefore an opportunity to grow Hyundai’s credibility in those areas — quality, technology and customer experience. It’s also an example of best practise, so practises that are introduced, processes, behaviours, innovation that are introduced in Genesis will cascade into mainstream Hyundai models and dealer processes.”

The first production model will be the Genesis G90, to be launched in South Korea first, reportedly on 9 December. Following launch of the full-size flagship saloon this year, Hyundai Motor will rebadge the Hyundai Genesis to Genesis G80 next year. Global sales of both G90 and G80 will commence next year.
