Bentley Bentayga Coupe rendering

Bentley Bentayga Coupe arrives next year with an uprated W12 engine

September 24, 2016

The Bentley Bentayga that was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) in September is yet to hit the dealerships and its coupe version could already be in the works. The more aerodynamic version will arrive next year to take the Bentley crossover appeal further up in the luxury car market, as per a report from Auto Express.

Bentley insiders suggested the publication that it will be an extremely powerful crossover like the BMW X6 M and debut “sometime next year”.

Bentley may preview a concept for the more dynamic Bentayga as early as the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March, says the report. The British publication has created a rendering to depict its imagination, which it says will be even more powerful. The engine will be the same 6-litre TSI twin-turbocharged W12 petrol unit that is tuned for 608 PS (600 bhp/447 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lf.-ft.) from the Bentayga, but will be tuned for more grunt.

Apart from more power, the coupe version will be differentiated with bigger bumpers, bigger wheels and its sportier stance. Peter Guest, Product Line Director at Bentley, told the publication that the Bentley Bentayga Coupe will be “much more biased towards on-road performance.” The four doors and four seats setup is not to change though, he confirmed.

Due to the nature of its body style, luggage space may be compromised, but the styling will much more aggressive and it will be a lot faster and a lot more dramatic, Mr. Guest indicated.

Apart from the new body style, the Bentley Bentayga will also gain a turbo-diesel model in the future, to significantly boost the sales, while a hybrid powertrain is also planned to be offered. Both options to the current petrol unit will become available within 12-18 months from March 2016 when the deliveries of the Bentayga commence. The first Bentayga will be built on 27 November at noon at the company’s Crewe plant in England.
