Bentley’s first crossover Bentayga is not even out yet and the company is already considering a new compact crossover. According to a report from Autocar, Rolf Frech, the brand’s Engineering Chief says that an SUV smaller than the Bentayga is “a possibility”. Mr. Frech made it very clear though, that no decision has been made on it. The report indicates that he was hinting at a BMW X6-rivaling crossover.
Apart from the sales potential of the segment that Bentley could tap into, the Volkswagen Group’s new rear-wheel drive MSB platform that will underpin the next-gen Continental GT can be easily adapted to spawn a new compact crossover, suggests the report.
Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer has already expressed his enthusiasm for the crossover/SUV segment saying that it is “expanding three times faster than the market as a whole.” Speaking about the potential of a compact crossover, the CEO admitted that there are other offerings from rival companies that show the potential in this segment. Rival brand Jaguar has also been recently reported of considering an entry-level E-Pace crossover and a full-size J-Pace crossover, in addition to the F-Pace that launches next year.
