It isn’t the first time that a compact crossover from Bentley is appearing on the news. It was reported earlier this year that a sub-Bentayga crossover is possible. Now a report from Autocar claims that Bentley has confirmed two new models – a sub-Bentayga crossover and the production version of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept. The former will be the first one to go on sale around 2018.
According to the new report, the size of the new crossover will be between that of the Porsche Cayenne and Porsche Macan. It will share many chassis and powertrain components with the Bentley Bentayga. Conventional petrol and diesel models aside, there will likely be a plug-in hybrid variant as well.
Speaking to the British publication, Wolfgang Durheimer, Chairman and CEO at Bentley, hinted this by saying that “It’ll be a matter of plug and play.” Volkswagen Group’s board is yet to give the green light, but according to Rolf Frech, Member of the Board for Engineering at Bentley, the project has is already in the design and initial engineering stage now. The Bentayga’s younger sibling may be shown in a concept form in late 2017.
As for the highly anticipated Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept’s production version, it will follow the new crossover a year or two later, the report suggests. An earlier report said that the coupe is planned to be launched in 2019 and it will be followed by a convertible version in 2020.
