BMW Group is celebrating its 40th Anniversary of its operations in North America along with the racing success of the BMW 3.0 CSL in 1975 with the global premiere of the 2015 BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R concept at the Concourse d’Elegance in Pebble Beach.
The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R concept is a race version of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage concept that was showcased earlier this year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The Hommage R features a similar design to the Hommage but gets revisions to the grille and adds BMW M racing stripes, ‘Brilliant White’ with metallic effect exterior paint scheme, dark carbon-fibre surfaces and 21 inch lightweight alloy wheels in matte gold with black contrast accents. The Hommage R will be one of the widest and lowest cars in the BMW family.
The race-spec version gets a unique driver helmet that projects information like speed, gear indication and engine revs directly to the visor enhancing driver’s perception. The unique race suit will visually depict the connection of the driver to the car by illuminated piping that has been integrated into the sleeves, showing the progress of information from the steering column to the driver’s shoulders and on to the visor.
The interiors of the concept model feature seats shells made of carbon-fibre along with white seat surfaces with fanned-out quilting and a six point safety harness. It also boasts of a carbon-fibre roll cage integrated into the structure of the car. The highlight of the Homage R will be the illuminated wood trim that displays the track layout and braking points, negating the need of a conventional display.
