BMW has announced its plans for the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show that will be that will tabe held from October 28 (October 30 for public) to November 8. The BMW M4 GTS will have its world premiere at the Japanese motor show. The sixth generation BMW 7 Series, the second generation BMW X1 as well as the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer – BMW 330e and BMW 225xe respectively, will have their Asian debut.
BMW M4 GTS
The GTS variant improves upon the M4 Coupe and is a special edition limited to 700 units. It is built to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the M3 which entered production in 1986. The M4 GTS comes with water injection technology that increases the M3/M4’s 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine’s power and torque to 368 kW/500 hp and 600 Nm respectively. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures are rated of 34 mpg (12.05 km/l) and 194 g/km respectively. The M4 GTS is not just the German automaker’s, but also the world’s first series production vehicle to feature OLED tail lights.
The all-new BMW 7-Series features a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) body shell that is a mixture of carbon fiber and aluminium for better strength in a lightweight package. Other noteworthy features of the new generation model include the Executive Drive Pro-active chassis system, the Driving Experience Control switch with adaptive mode, and BMW Laserlight. The interior highlights include Executive Lounge feature with massage function, illuminated Sky Lounge Panorama glass roof and accent lighting.
There are also a host of active and passive safety systems such as crossing traffic warning, steering and lane control assistant, active side collision protection, surround view system with 3D View and panorama view, and a remote control parking system.
The second generation BMW X1 is available with a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines and both front- and all-wheel drive drivetrain options. Noteworthy features include full-LED headlights, Dynamic Damper Control, head-up display that projects driving-related information onto the windscreen and the driving assistant plus system.
BMW 330e and BMW 225xe
The BMW 330e plug-in hybrid that had its world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) last month is the first-ever plug-in hybrid 3 Series. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain comprises a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and an eDrive electric motor which produce 248 hp and 420 Nm of torque in combination.
The 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show hosted world debut of the BMW 22xe also. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder petrol engine and an eDrive electric motor. The plug-in hybrid powertrain produces 224 hp and 385 Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid model can be driven up to 41 km in pure electric mode.
