The BMW M2 that was revealed last week as the high performance variant of the BMW 2 Series Coupe has entered series production alongside the BMW 1 Series (5-door), BMW 2 Series Coupe, BMW 2 Series Convertible and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer at the BMW Leipzig Plant in Germany.
The first unit produced, as seen in the images, features Long Beach Blue metallic exterior paint. With that signature colour, the Alpine White, Black Sapphire and Mineral Grey complete the colour palette for the exterior.
To recap, the BMW M2 is powered by BMW M TwinPower Turbo twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 272 kW (370 hp) and 465 Nm (343 lb.-ft.) of torque. The torque figure can be boosted to 500 Nm (369 lb.-ft.) in short bursts under overboost. A 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) is optional. When equipped with the latter and Launch Control, the BMW M2 can do a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in just 4.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) like the 2 Series Coupe (228i/M235i/M235i xDrive).
The BMW M2 has been priced from €56,700 in Germany and will start reaching dealerships in April 2016. This hints that the models being produced currently would be for overseas markets. In the UK and Netherlands, the M2 is priced at £44,070 and €79,990 respectively, and reach showrooms in April 2016. U.S. and Canadian sales of the M variant will commence in Spring 2016 and pricing would be released closer to that.
