According to a new report by BMWBLOG, the F47 X2’s design for the X2 Sports Activity Coupe may be dropped in favour of a new model design called the XCite, which might still carry the X2 nomenclature.
The report suggests that the new model has been approved for production in 2017. The new XCite is likely to share the UKL platform with the X1 while featuring a bolder design. It seems like the company is now favouring the more traditional body style of a compact SUV than the coupe like roofline that sacrifices interior space for style.
Renderings of the BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupe, with a slooping roofline and an upright rear end design to be positioned alongside the X4 and the X6 models had emerged earlier. However there wasn’t any official confirmation apart from the company trademarking the ‘X2’ and ‘X2 Sport’.
The X2 is likely to share the 2.0L four-cylinder Petrol and Diesel engines from the X1 producing 150 hp to 231 hp. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed ZF automatic, with the top-end variants getting the xDrive all-wheel drive option. The new X2 was reported to be produced at BMW’s Regensburg facility in Germany alongside the X1.
