After a 54 year absence in the industry Borgward is making a comeback with the premiere of its ‘close to series production’ Borgward BX7 mid-size crossover prototype at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA).
The BX7 has been designed to exude a dynamic look with a distinctive front end that sports a diamond pattern octagon grille which houses the rhombus Borgward logo. The side profile of the BX7 features elongated wing profile with a ‘hawk line’ designed to give an impression of dynamism. The rear-end features LED tail lamps, a streamlined spoiler and dual exhaust tips.
The cabin of the BX7 can be configured for five, six or seven seats as per individual preferences. The interior features use of high quality materials with the sport seats being upholstered in Nappa leather with Borgward contrast stitching.
The dashboard and the door trim also see usage of Nappa leather while the A-pillar and the roof liner are covered with Black DINAMICA leather. The dashboard houses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with smartphone integration for Apple and Android devices using the Borgward Multiple Interaction System.
The BX7 AWD T-GDI is powered by a modern 2.0-litre direct injection engine that produces 224 hp (165 kW) and 300 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a dual-clutch transmission with the help of an all-wheel drive system. The BX7 reaches 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than 10 seconds, and has a top speed in excess of 200 km/h (124 mph). Borgward is also planning a plug-in hybrid version of the BX7 that will also feature a 2.0-litre combustion engine which will be assisted by an electric motor.
Noteoworthy driver assistance systems on the Borgward BX7 include city braking assistance system, active or passive lane-changing assistance system, traffic sign recognition system, driver-fatigue warning system, tyre pressure monitoring system and collision assistant system with active brake intervention.
