GM has confirmed the arrival of two new vehicles in the Chinese market this year – the 2016 Buick Verano Hatchback and Buick Verano GS. The 2016 Verano is essentially a Buick-branded fourth generation Opel/Vauxhall Astra, while the Verano GS is its sportier variant.
GM has not revealed much details apart from saying that the both models will have sporty styling, premium interiors, advanced technology and European car-like handling. It also mentions that these cars are directed at customers who are looking for a driving experience that is “born with sportiness”.
Both hatchbacks have a low, wide stance; flowing bodylines; double-sweep beltine; front grille connected to wing-shaped headlights and a floating roofline. Power for the hatch will come from a 1.5-litre SIDI naturally aspirated engine that will be coupled to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DSS automatic transmission.
The Verano GS will have additional sporty bits and wide range of colours along with an optional exterior package that includes black waterfall grille, bright red strips for the front and rear bumpers, aerodynamic spoilers, bright red brake calipers and dark-painted five-spoke aluminum alloy wheels.
The GS will get the 1.5-litre T SIDI turbocharged engine that produces 124 kW (166 hp) at 5,600 rpm. This unit is mated to a 7-speed DCG dual-clutch transmission. The GS variant’s fuel economy is rated 16.95 km/l.
